Happy Homicides is a must read book I appreciate anthologies because they give me an opportunity to read novellas written by several of my favorite authors and, also, serves as an introduction to new authors This holiday collection of short stories and novellas was written by a group of talented authors including Joanna Campbell Slan, Neil Pakcy, Lois Winston, Annie Adams, Jenna Bennett, Nancy Jill Thames, Sara Rosett, Camille Minichino, Nancy Warren, Linda Gordon Hengerer, Joyce and Jim Lavene, and Teresa Trent This was a wonderful way for me to give thought to the approaching holiday season This was a very entertaining read Several of my favorite authors contributed to this book Rather than attempting to summarize or review each story, I will briefly highlight the stories they wrote Joyce and Jim Lavene s short story The Dog Who Came for Christmas was wonderful The main character is Carrie Shaw, a veterinarian Carrie moves to a small town, Grover s Corners, to escape a tragedy from past Carrie and an abused dog come together in an interesting twist and an endearing, heartwarming ending I hope that Joyce and Jim Lavene revisit these characters, perhaps in a new series Nancy Jill Thames story, Teddy Saves Christmas , is superbly written as well Jillian Bradley finds herself alone for the holidays, her dog Teddy, a cute little Yorkie, finds Rose, an ill, homeless woman with an interesting but dangerous secret Teddy won t leave Rose on the street so based on Teddy s approval Jillian decides to take Rose home to recuperate putting all of them in danger This story has an unexpected ending The novella by Linda Gordon Hengerer, Dying for Holiday Tea A Beach Tea Shop Novella , is another story I truly enjoyed The Powell sisters run their grandmother s old tea shop and find her recipe book, with her treasured gingerbread recipe This recipe is desired so badly that someone commit a murder The descriptions within the story are so well written the reader feels as if they are there savoring the scents and envisioning the sights of the tea shop.Happy Homicides contains thirteen storiesthat should be enough for everyone to find something they like These are just three of my favorites There are ten stories, to choose from, and a bonus offer with recipes and holiday craft ideas I really appreciated was the variety of the story lines so there is something for everyone mystery, humor and romance, ranging from light hearted to murder Each story take place between Thanksgiving and Christmas, yet each is unique Happy Homicides will make a great holiday read for anyone I really enjoyed this book Actually, I enjoyed them all You can t go wrong with these thirteen cozy, holiday themed mysteries The publisher authors thoughtfully priced this collection just right making it affordable to those on tight budgets as a treasure for one s self or to purchase as a gift for friends who enjoy cozy mysteries This is the perfect book to get the reader in the mood for the holidays Imagine, sitting by the fireplace, wrapped in a comfortable blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and a wonderful book.Full Disclosure I purchased this book as several stories were written by authors I consider to be some of my favorites I did received a complimentary, advanced copy of this book from an author who has a story included in this anthology in exchange for an honest review I was not required to write a positive review The opinions I have expressed in this review are my own.

Happy Homicides is like a holiday sampler platter every morsel is delicious, and when you are finished you want the full menu I enjoy anthologies The stories are shorter so I can read them on the go, and I get in between glimpses about familiar characters from my favorite authors, as well as discovering new authors who are probably similar to ones I already like This collection was one of the best I have read and includes stories by Joanna Campbell Slan, Neil Pakcy, Lois Winston, Annie Adams, Jenna Bennett, Nancy Jill Thames, Sara Rosett, Camille Minichino, Nancy Warren, Linda Gordon Hengerer, Joyce and Jim Lavene, and Teresa Trent. The stories are all holiday themed, but that is where the similarity ends It s a diverse set we get dogs and cats and children of course, and some murder sprinkled in We go to familiar settings like tea shops and craft stores and recipe competitions, but also take a fun trip to a trailer park We meet sisters and aunts who are wonderful family, but there are some husbands who are not so wonderful and some scary strangers One of the stories is very down home, while another is almost scientific, and Jane Austen makes an appearance in one story I did have a couple of favorite stories, but I enjoyed each and every one of them, and ended up purchasing several books by new to me contributing authors because I enjoyed their Happy Homicide so much It was a great way to start getting into the holiday spirit This is a must read It s well written, quick to read, and very entertaining And there are recipes and crafts I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

13 novellas by 12 mystery writers, how could you possibly go wrong with this book I don t think I had read any or much by any of these authors but I definitely plan to search out these author s other books Some I might even already have on my Kindle so many books not enough time Not all of the stories had a death, but there was some sort of mystery that needed to be solved I m not sure if I can pick out which one was my favorite because they were all good I don t think I figured any of them out until the end when the killer or perpetrator was revealed Of course there were several stories that involved dogs and I might have favored those a bit , but only because I m a dog lover
